Position Overview

Ultimate Staffing Services is actively seeking an experienced Survey Department Manager (Licensed Surveyor) to join their client's dynamic team. This position is based in a leading engineering firm located in a vibrant area. The Survey Department Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and technical oversight of the surveying department, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timely completion of all survey deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop survey technicians, crew chiefs, field personnel, and office staff.
  • Manage daily operations of the survey department, including staffing, workload planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Serve as the Licensed Surveyor responsible for reviewing, signing, and sealing survey documents and plans.
  • Oversee boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, right-of-way, subdivision, and control surveys.
  • Review survey calculations, plats, legal descriptions, maps, records of survey, and other deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, contractors, developers, and public agencies.
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and fee estimates for survey projects.
  • Monitor project performance, schedules, budgets, and profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing land surveying practices.
  • Implement and maintain quality control and quality assurance standards.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging survey technologies, including GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, LiDAR, UAV/drone mapping, and GIS applications.
  • Support business development efforts through client relationship management and proposal preparation.
  • Attend client meetings, public hearings, and agency coordination meetings as required.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure adherence to company safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Current Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/LS) license in the applicable state.
  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive surveying experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of boundary analysis, land title research, legal descriptions, subdivision mapping, and construction surveying.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and staff simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of state surveying laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, Trimble Business Center, or similar survey software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Work Hours

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Additional Details

While a Professional Engineering (PE) license is not mandatory, substantial experience in the field is required. This role is ideal for those with a strong leadership background in engineering and surveying firms such as civil engineering consultants, land development firms, transportation engineering companies, and public agencies.
